Ross Mitchell (Chair) - President, LightHaus Networks Ross Mitchell is the President of LightHaus Networks – a venture capital firm specializing in early stage technology companies.
A serial technology entrepreneur, Ross advises several of the LightHaus Networks affiliated companies, including LightHaus Logic Inc, and Kineteks Corporation. He founded HotHaus Technologies, a pioneer in VoIP technology, and served as its CEO until it was acquired by Broadcom in 1999 in one of the largest technology purchases in Canada. Ross also worked in various marketing and engineering capacities at Spectrum Signal Processing, MacDonald Dettwiler, Seastar Instruments and Raytheon.
He is a founding member and Chairman of the Mitchell Odyssey Foundation, which is committed to providing opportunities in science, technology, and mathematics to adolescents. Ross graduated on the Dean’s List from the University of Waterloo with a bachelor of applied science in electrical engineering.
Robert Willett - Former CEO, Best Buy International Robert Willet is renowned as a pioneer in transforming how technology is used in retail enterprises.
CIO Magazine named Willett to the CIO Hall of Fame in 2008 to honor his significant contribution to IT in the role of business. He has served on the LightHaus Logic board of directors since 2008, and currently serves as the chairman of the board of UK-based Metapack. Bob retired from Best Buy Company in January 2010 after transforming the company into a global operation through the very successful joint venture with Carphone Warehouse that he chaired until his retirement in January 2010.
In 2004, Bob assumed responsibility for Best Buy’s supply chain as Executive Vice President of Operations, in addition to the role of CI. In February 2006, he was named CEO of Best Buy International, which covers Best Buy’s Canadian locations and Canadian consumer electronics chain Future Shop, retaining responsibility for supply chain, sourcing offices in China, technology operations, Best Buy Mobile, corporate development and international expansion.
Prior to Best Buy, Bob was the Global Managing Partner of Accenture’s retail practice working with best-in-class retailers throughout the world on strategy reviews, business transformation, procurement and supply chain management, brand positioning, technology transformation and customer segmentation. He was also a member of Accenture’s Executive Committee.
Bob has also held Managing Director and Group CEO positions at various companies in the United Kingdom, starting his retail career with Marks & Spencer, which he claims provided him with the lifelong understanding that putting customer needs first will drive business success.
Morgan Sturdy - Independent Director, Dees Communications Morgan Sturdy is a high-tech entrepreneur and executive who has contributed significantly to the development of the technology industry and fostering of entrepreneurialism in British Columbia.
Morgan was the President of Dees Communications, a market leader in call center solutions, from 1985 until its acquisition by NICE Systems in 1997. Morgan has been very active in the BC technology community for over 20 years, serving as a board member of more than 25 technology companies, including CREO, HotHaus Technologies, Voice Mobility International, Ignition Point, Idelix Software, and UB Video.
Six of the companies Morgan served as a director for were sold for a combined value of $1.6 Billion. He was also the Chairman of the Board for HotHaus Technologies when it was acquired by Broadcom. Morgan co-founded the Vancouver Enterprise Forum, co-founded and chaired the Acetech Academy for Technology CEOs, and served as a director for Discovery Park and Great Northern Way – two pioneer technology parks in BC. Morgan contributed 9 years to the Board of Governors for Science World, including three years as the chair.
Morgan currently serves as a director on the British Columbia Innovation Council, the Premier’s Technology Council, and the Mitchell Odyssey Foundation, which is committed to providing opportunities in science, technology, and mathematics to adolescents. Morgan holds a diploma in technology for marketing management from BCIT and a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Simon Fraser University.
Jim Charlton - Senior VP, GrowthWorks Capital Jim Charlton is a senior VP at GrowthWorks Capital and has been involved in the venture capital industry for over 25 years.
GrowthWorks Capital is an early stage venture fund management company that focuses on information technology, clean technology and life sciences opportunities. Prior to joining GrowthWorks in 1996, Jim was the Vice President at Ventures West, and Vice President at Discovery Enterprises – two early stage venture capital firms.
Jim is responsible for investments in many companies, including success stories like HotHaus Technologies (bought by Broadcom Corp.), Cellex Power Products, Techware Systems Ltd., and Gemcom Software Inc. In addition, he has also sat on the boards for Kinetek Pharmaceuticals, Chancery Software, QuestAir Technologies, Silicon Chalk, Youachieve, Inc., and InVentures Inc.
Jim is a former Board member of the Canadian Venture Capital Association and currently sits on its Valuation & Statistics and Finance Committees. He currently sits on the boards of Mixpo Inc., CellFor Inc., and LightHaus Logic Inc. Jim also serves on the Board of Directors for the Mitchell Odyssey Foundation – a philanthropic organization that creates opportunities for youth in science, technology, and math. He holds a bachelor of science degree from the University of British Columbia and a master’s degree in business administration from the University of Western Ontario.
Andy Talbot - President and Chief Executive Officer, LightHaus Logic As President and CEO of LightHaus Logic, Andy Talbot determines the strategy for bringing visual intelligence to retail and other customer-focused markets.
He leads the executive team and is known for his innovative leadership style and technical acumen. Andy has a proven track record and significant entrepreneurial success with both public and private companies. As the founding board member for UB Video, Andy was instrumental in strategy, financing, strategic alliances, customer sales and the resultant acquisition by Cisco/Scientific Atlanta in February 2006. Prior to UB Video, Andy was the Vice President of the Network Solutions division at Spectrum Signal Processing, a startup division that was ultimately sold to UT Starcom, a prominent Chinese telecommunications company.
Andy founded and served as the President of Alex Computer Systems, a company that was later successfully acquired by Spectrum. Andy was also actively responsible for the success of a number of startup companies in his roles as: VP/General Manager for Transtech Parallel Systems USA, Director of Sales for Transtech Devices UK, and founder of Tektite, a specialized graphics company.
